| About The Academy The Academy was established as a joint venture between several military and civilian organizations. It is not purely military, nor purely civilian - instead, there are influences from many arenas. Its purpose is to instruct students in the way of the Stargate program so that they may some day join the ranks of the program and be ambassadors for Earth, explore the galaxy and fight against the Goa'uld. The campus is set up like the USAF Academy in Colorado Springs on Earth. However, there are some differences. There are dorms (mixed genders) with separate rooms usually consisting of two students. There are also recreational and gym facilities, as well as the training facilities. There are practical labs for the sciences and with the help of some alien technology, other areas can also get in practice. Flight simulators are available for the Flight School and there is a training ground not far from the main campus for combat training. Survival courses are taken on the far side of planet. Students are assigned to squads for field missions and generally are encouraged to spend time together during downtime also. Every student is considered equal at the Academy, regardless of gender, species, ethnic background or country of origin. A sense of community is encouraged, as is interaction between students and the teaching staff. Most courses are 4 years long, with some exceptions. The elite Flight Squadron (usually consisting of Goa'uld Death Gliders, but also including other species' small fighters and gliders) is known as 'Nova Squadron'. |
