Born
on Jan. 12, 1986 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Paul was born into a
medical family. His mother, the head of internal medicine at the
Calgary Foothills Hospital and his father, a neurosurgeon at the
Alberta Children’s Hospital both lavished much attention to him and
his twin sister, Deandra. From an early age, Paul always had an excess
store of energy. As a result, and to keep him out of trouble, his
parents enrolled him in both Judo and Tae-Kwon-Do in the hopes that it
would occupy his mind and keep him out of trouble.
As
he grew with his twin sister, he did anything but stay out of trouble.
Their antics earned them a small reputation at their high school and
the nickname ‘Double Trouble’. Upon graduation, he applied to the
University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta and earned his engineering
degree in 4 years. Upon graduation with honors in late 2008 he applied
to the Stargate Program in the hopes that he could experience new
places and new technology. Before he was accepted, he heard the news
that his sister was also granted enrolment in the Stargate medical
program. He kept quiet, not wanting to ruin her day and not wanting
any members of his family to be disappointed if he was rejected.
When
he was accepted he told everyone but Deandra, wanting to surprise her
with his arrival.
