Born
on Jan. 12, 1986 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Deandra was
born into a medical family. Her
mother, the head of internal medicine at the Calgary
Foothills Hospital, encouraged her from a young age to pursue a
medical career. Her father, a
neurosurgeon at the Alberta Children’s Hospital, tried
to keep his only daughter away from the medical profession, pushing
her to try the
creative arts. Deandra, however, made up her own mind when, at age
7, she witnessed a school friend
become the victim of a hit and run accident after
school one day. She watched, amazed at the quick response and care
given by the
paramedics and decided on the spot that that was what she wanted to do
with her life.
After that event, she did everything in her
power to enter to ensure her entrance
into the medical field. She applied and was accepted into the
Canadian College of Emergency
Medical Services in Edmonton, Alberta right after
high school. She graduated from the pre-hospital care program with
honors and moved back to Calgary
to be with her family. Shortly after starting work
with the Calgary emergency medical services, she started the Pre-Med
Program at the University of Calgary.
The moment she saw that application were being
accepted by the Stargate Project for their academy, Deandra applied as
soon as she could. By the time of
her acceptance into the Stargate Academy she had
completed the first two years of the program. |
